SUB TITLE:  Simple linear equations

Learning Outcomes:

M 707 Formulating and solving situations in everyday life as simple equations

M 708 Addition and Subtraction of Algebraic Expressions Setting up a simple array of two variables 

To learn and solve simple equations

Motivation: 

Adding 10 to any number gives 110   and If 10 is subtracted from 3 times a number to get 99, what is that number? It is interesting to ask such questions.

Recalling:    

Statements to convert the expression For example : 

 

For adding or subtracting algebraic expressions, we can write the like terms one after the other horizontally by using brackets or one below the other vertically.

Subtracting 4y is the same as adding – 4y and subtracting – 11x is the same as adding 11x

What will you get if twice a number is subtracted from thrice the same number?

Understanding:

Teacher explains the theme of the topic like,

Teacher make different columns with tables of constants and make them variables their statement. Also demonstrate and explain how to set up simple equations. Explain with suitable example where equations are used in daily life

Teacher Solving Problem:


Examples :  3.11  Ex3.3 [3,4,7]

Exercises: Ex 3.3 [1 , 2,6]

Student Solving Problem:

Examples :  3.12

Exercises: Ex 3.3 [3,4]


Group Activity :

Finding answers to items with a price list and solving lesson puzzles

 

Reinforcement :

            Teacher once again explains the concept of the lesson to reinforce. Ask students to make simple equations with to variables

Assessment :

FA(a) :  

If the dogs, cats and parrots represent unknowns, find them. Substitute each of the values so obtained in the equations and verify the answers.

 

FA(b) : 

 

1.         Fill in the blanks.

(i) An expression equated to another expression is called __________

(ii) If a = 5, the value of 2a + 5 is __________ 

(iii) The sum of twice and four times of the variable x is __________

 

2. Say True or False.

(i) Every algebraic expression is an equation 

(ii) The expression 7x + 1 cannot be reduced without knowing the value of x.

(iii) To add two like terms, its coefficients can be added.

 

Remedial Teaching:

By using QR code videos, we can do remedial teaching. Also motivate to do the sum in peer groups.

Writing:                    

Teacher asks the students to make the equations with two variables using toys

Continuous work: 

            The teacher asks the students to write the solution of one variable equations and write the exercise sum 3.3 and 3.4
